Charcoal is widely used as fuel to the steel industry and to get a good efficiency its quality needs to be high. Because of that, many companies in this field prefer to produce own charcoal, to have control of the production process, making adjustments to get the maximum calorific value on the final product. In addition to the type of wood that gave rise to coal, other requirements need to be considered, for example, the homogenous carbonization of the wood used, this process can be done by controlling the intake of air in a metallurgical coal oven.

This was the case of a steel mill, a world reference, this facility has a range of temperature measuring points that swing from 9 to 30 per metallurgical coal oven, so, the combination of the FieldLogger density of points and the wireless communication provided by AirGate Modbus was the perfect solution. The excellence of this application stands out because facilitates the control of the entrance of air in the blast furnace besides, the online availability of data in the control room. The use of the wireless system improved the charcoal production process in a modern way and also reduced the cost of the application due to the absence of wiring at distances of more than 500 m.
